Zinc is necessary in several important reactions and it acts as the catalyst. In the absence or deficiency of zinc a lot of body functions are impaired and cannot work properly. Pregnant women can safely take zinc supplements only after consulting their doctor as it is important to know the needs of the body and other issues concerning the toxicity of the element. Make sure you never exceed more than 20 mg a day as amounts higher than that can be extremely toxic and result in adverse reactions in the body which can be dangerous for both the mother and her child. If possible you should avoid taking zinc supplements during pregnancy as they might interfere with the child’s mental development and other such mental complications. Zinc supplements should be taken only in the case of deficiency and should be completely avoided in all other cases for the safety of the mother and the child. |
