Folic acid supplements side effects

Folic acid is an essential form of Vitamin B integral to the formation of cells, replication of DNA, formation of white blood cells and red blood cells and maintenance of a healthy embryo. However, the possibilities of certain side effects may arise due to the wrong method of dosage or excessive dosage by the person. Some of the tolerable and mild signs of wrong dosage of this drug include, nausea, bloated abdomen, loss of appetite, bitter taste, flatulence, insomnia or inability to concentrate. These symptoms normally alleviate over the time and do not require any medical intervention. However, there may be some severe side effects which may demand immediate intervention by your consultant. Some of such serious signs are difficulty in breathing, inability at closing the throat, excessive swelling at the lips, tongue or face.

The right concentration for the consumption of folic acid may be 500 mg or less. However, if one takes a larger dosage of 1500 mcg by combining three smaller doses of 500 mg concentration, one may experience immediate side effects like fever, discomfort, rashes, shortness of breath, itching or skin rashes. To avoid the chances of any side effects, it is important to visit an expert to learn on the correct dosage of this medicine and its right method of consumption.
