Should you take iron supplements in empty stomach?

Iron supplements are mainly given to re-stock the levels of iron in the blood stream. This mineral is most essential for maintaining the overall health of the person. Though, this mineral has numerous health benefits, it is imperative for the person to consume them in the right way so as to make the most of it. It has been well proven that iron supplements prove most effective when they are consumed on an empty stomach. The mild-moderate dosage of iron in form of tablets should be taken on an empty stomach for its complete absorption. The absorbed iron then triggers the release of oxygen and its transportation to various parts of the body via blood. However, it is important to note that not all dosages of iron are suggested for intake on an empty stomach. Those who are severely anemic and recuperating via a high dosage of iron are recommended to take iron pills along with a heavy breakfast. Further, the consumption of iron is also highly recommended with citrus beverages that have rich content of Vitamin C so as to increase the absorption of the mineral. Consumption of milk with or after the dosage of iron is dissuaded as the calcium is known to hinder the absorption of this mineral.
